Høllet (small harbor)
Høllet lies hidden in a quiet cove by Mariagerfjord – a peaceful natural gem, offering the calm to slow down.
Based in a centuries-old fishing village, Mariager Fjord’s perhaps most idyllic harbor has taken shape to the delight of members of Høllets Bådlaug, the many visiting sailors, and guests from land who simply must stop by the little “butter harbor.”
The atmosphere at Høllet is always special. On a summer day, it hums with life in a uniquely quiet and idyllic way. From early morning, the locals come down to the harbor to relax, without really planning to take a boat trip, even though they have a boat in the water.
You can almost picture it – a handful of recreational fishermen on a never-ending quest for the fjord’s stocks of eel, herring, and flounder, and anglers hoping for a well-fed and beautiful fjord trout, while a few early-morning visiting sailors enjoy a cup of coffee and a traditional Danish breakfast on deck as the sun rises over the fjord.
Høllet is a perfect stop for the nature lover who is not necessarily chasing big sights – but simply wants to find peace. However, if you do feel like venturing a little further, head towards Hobro. On the way there, the road winds past Bramslev Bakker, where cows graze on the slopes overlooking the fjord.
Several marked hiking trails start right here – including the Panorama Route. As the first in Denmark, it has received the coveted designation as a "premium hiking trail," which becomes clear as soon as you take your first steps.
