Stinesminde Havn (Harbor)
Welcome to charming Stinesminde Harbour, the smallest harbour on Mariager Fjord. An idyllic and historic gem in Himmerland.
Stinesminde Harbour has room for just 15 small boats, making it the smallest harbour on Mariager Fjord. There's a bit more space on land, though. The small local community consists of 33 households. So yes – things are small in Stinesminde – but perhaps that's exactly what makes this little fishing village ooze with charm, idyllic atmosphere, beautiful nature, a touch of history, and Mariager Fjord’s most exciting shipwreck: the Stinesminde wreck, which is believed to date back to 1618. The wreck was discovered by local divers in 1974.
The town is named after a kitchen maid who worked at the Ouegaard estate. Her name, of course, was Stine. When she retired, she was given a small forester's house by the fjord, around the mid-1800s, which is when the village came into being.
Stinesminde today
Near Stinesminde Harbour, you'll find the cosy little Icecream Hut with polite self-service. The Ice Hut is about 800 metres from the harbour, and the walk takes you along the coast of Mariager Fjord. The path continues towards Høllet and Kielstrup Lake and is part of the Mariager Fjord Cycle Route 32.
At the same location as the Ice Hut, you can also rent a classic Puch Maxi moped at "Knallertoplevelser" (Moped Adventures). A nostalgic route is planned that takes you past Stinesminde, Høllet, Lundshøj, and Bramslev Bakker – pure nostalgia as you cruise around on the old-school mopeds with vintage helmets and green milk crates on the back.
The fishing village
Very few visiting sailors come here. There's simply no room in the harbour, and the water depth of as little as 0.5 metres makes it difficult for larger boats to dock. However, Stinesminde Harbour is a popular destination for both locals and tourists arriving by land. There's nothing better than spending a summer afternoon visiting the little ice cream and fish hut on the harbour to pick up some fresh eel or a few flounders, sip your afternoon coffee, admire the large anchor in the centre of the harbour square, or simply enjoy the charm of the smallest harbour on the fjord.
