Experience flower artist Johnny Haugaard’s largest art installation to date – a giant Midgard Serpent winding its way through Hobro during July and August.
The Midgard Serpent will be built from all kinds of sticks – and almost any type of wooden stick can be used. Listen to Johnny explain the project and what kind of sticks are needed in this video, where local shops in Hobro joined the hunt for the perfect stick.
At the GAS Museum in Hobro, history comes to life in Johnny Haugaard’s exhibition DENMARK, where runes, kings, and Völvas whisper from the past. This is also where the enormous Midgard Serpent begins its journey – a giant serpent built from wooden sticks and willow, shaped like a tunnel that visitors can walk through in several places.
Stretching over 4.5 kilometers, the Midgard Serpent will twist its way through Hobro, winding above and below ground – and even across rooftops – on its path toward Fyrkat, where its head rises dramatically from the earth.
The serpent has even shed its skin – which can be found in Bramslev Bakker, where creative souls have built a tunnel of steel and recycled textiles. It snakes its way down through the stunning landscape and ends at Mariager Fjord.
Ticket prices for The DENMARK exhibition:
Large parts of the Midgard Serpent route are wheelchair accessible. However, the section between Aalykkevej and Fyrkat is not suitable for visitors with reduced mobility or wheelchairs. We recommend using Fyrkatvej for easier access.
The DENMARK exhibition is not wheelchair accessible, as it is spread over several floors with level differences.

Der henvises til at ALLE kører mod GASmuseet, når I skal opleve Midgårdsormen og Naturudstillingen DANMARK. Her vil de frivillige hjælpe dig til at finde parkering tæt på.
Store dele af ruten med Midgårdsormen er kørestolsegnet. Dog er forløbet mellem Aalykkevej og Fyrkat ikke egnet for gangbesværede og kørestole (her foreslår vi at man benytter sig af Fyrkatvej, hvis man er i kørestol).
Naturudstillingen DANMARK er ikke kørestolsegnet, da udstillingen er i flere etager og har yderligere niveauforskelle flere steder.

Creativity and passion
In Himmerland, Johnny has expressed his creativity in many ways – most recently through two stunning exhibitions in the old swimming hall in Aars. He began with a magical Christmas exhibition that attracted nearly 50,000 guests, followed by a beautiful spring exhibition that welcomed around 26,000 visitors. The spring exhibition even spread its “blossoms” to several towns in Vesthimmerland, where outdoor art installations drew thousands of happy guests to Løgstør, Aalestrup, and Farsø.

The magic is made by helping hands
It is the creative volunteers who help bring these magical worlds to life. At the spring exhibition in Aars, more than 660 volunteers contributed in their own unique ways to shaping the beautiful experience. Togetherness, joy, and creativity are the glue that holds these spectacular installations together. And who knows – perhaps even more will join in to help create the Midgard Serpent in Hobro?
