Midgårdsormen i Hobro

Johnny Haugaard - The Midgard Serpent in Hobro

Photo: Destination Himmerland

Experience flower artist Johnny Haugaard’s largest art installation to date – a giant Midgard Serpent winding its way through Hobro during September.

Head for the GAS Museum in Hobro – this is where the adventure begins!

At the GAS Museum in Hobro, the Midgard Serpent emerges – a giant serpent built of steel and willow, designed as a tunnel that you can walk through in several places. Over a stretch of nearly 4 km, you can follow the serpent’s trail through Hobro as it winds above and below ground on its way to Fyrkat, where its head rises from the soil – about 20 meters high.

The Midgard Serpent has also shed its skin – in Bramslev Bakker, where creative souls have built a tunnel of steel and recycled textiles. It winds through the beautiful landscape and ends at Mariager Fjord.

Who is Johnny Haugaard?

Johnny Haugaard, often known as “The Flower Man,” is a passionate floral artist who has made a name for himself by transforming traditional flower displays into lavish works of art. His creative mind and incredible talent have earned him a special place in the hearts of many Danes. He is renowned for his breathtaking arrangements that turn natural materials and flowers into true artistic experiences. Johnny is driven by a deep love of flowers and a desire to create spaces where people can dream and find inspiration.

Creativity and passion

In Himmerland, Johnny has expressed his creativity in many ways – most recently through two stunning exhibitions in the old swimming hall in Aars. He began with a magical Christmas exhibition that attracted nearly 50,000 guests, followed by a beautiful spring exhibition that welcomed around 26,000 visitors. The spring exhibition even spread its “blossoms” to several towns in Vesthimmerland, where outdoor art installations drew thousands of happy guests to Løgstør, Aalestrup, and Farsø.

You can watch clips from the spring exhibition “The Voice of Nature – Decay” here.

The magic is made by helping hands

It is the creative volunteers who help bring these magical worlds to life. At the spring exhibition in Aars, more than 660 volunteers contributed in their own unique ways to shaping the beautiful experience. Togetherness, joy, and creativity are the glue that holds these spectacular installations together. And who knows – perhaps even more will join in to help create the Midgard Serpent in Hobro?
