With plenty of space, peace, and beautiful nature, Himmerland is the perfect place to bring your dog. But as a dog owner, there are some rules you need to know. Here’s an overview of the regulations that apply to dogs on beaches, in forests, and in nature in Himmerland.
Beaches
Himmerland has many beautiful beaches where dogs are welcome all year round. However, during the summer season from April 1 to September 30, dogs must be kept on a leash so that everyone can enjoy the beach in peace.
In the winter season from October 1 to March 31, dogs may run freely on the beach. Be aware, though, that this is not allowed everywhere, so always check the local signage.
Swimming
From April 1 to September 30, dogs may only swim freely in deep water – that is, beyond the daily low-water line – and only on beaches without a Blue Flag. On Blue Flag beaches, dogs are permitted to swim in the water from September 16 to May 31.
Forests
Himmerland offers many beautiful forest and plantation areas that are perfect for walks with your dog. Remember, however, that in Denmark dogs must always be kept on a leash in forest areas – to protect both wildlife and other visitors. Also, pay attention to local signs, as special rules may apply in certain areas.
Dog Forests
In Himmerland, you’ll find several dedicated dog forests where dogs are allowed to run freely off-leash. Here they can enjoy a sense of freedom – but it’s important that you keep them under full supervision and are always able to call your dog back to you.
