Top Karen’s House
Top Karen’s House opened in 1912 and became the first traditional refreshment house in the Rebild area. The house is named after Marie Andersen – better known as Top Karen – who ran the place together with her husband, Jens Andersen.
In the beginning, everything was simple and modest. Visitors could buy boiled water for their coffee for 5 øre. Later, the business grew, and Top Karen came up with the well-known slogan:
“Sodavand, øl og kaffe, det kan Karen skaffe.”
Soft drinks, beer and coffee – Karen can provide it.
Top Karen ran Tophuset from its opening in 1912 until her death in 1929, at the age of 86. After many years without operation and an extensive restoration, Tophuset reopened in 2002.
Today, Top Karen’s House is once again a popular place to eat. Here you can enjoy lunch, coffee with homemade cake and dinner in the nostalgic, low-ceilinged rooms, where the history can still be felt.
