Skivum Church

Skivum Church, with its architecture and historical significance, is worth a visit in Himmerland.

In the church, there is a fine figure of Mary with the child, originating from a Catholic altarpiece from around 1475. The sorrowful facial expressions beautifully connect the figure with the drama of Easter.

The altarpiece is a winged altar from 1590, and the central painting depicts a skillfully executed crucifixion scene, painted with many thoughtful details. The broken trees below the cross allude to Job 14:7: ?For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots will not cease?.

In the vestibule stands a runestone, and on the south side of the choir is a quoin with a checkered pattern.

The church is usually open during daytime from Monday to Saturday.
