Robbers Route - Rold Skov (5,1km)
Set out on a hike along the Robbers Route and experience Rold Forest from its peaceful and atmospheric side. The trail takes you through the Lovers’ Path and past Hvass Lake, and is certified as a Premium Easy Walking Trail by the German Hiking Institute (Deutsches Wanderinstitut).
Røverruten – A Hærvejen Gem in Rold Forest
The Røverruten starts and ends at Stabelpladsen in Arden, where free parking is available. It is recommended to walk the route clockwise.
The trail begins along the idyllic Kærlighedsstien (“Lovers’ Path”), which winds gently along the forest edge before you reach Roldvej, part of the historic Hærvejen (the Ancient Road). From here, the route continues past the fascinating sinkholes Røverstuen and Hestegraven, which, according to legend, gave the trail its name.
Along the way, you’ll also pass Hvass Lake – a small natural gem surrounded by tall trees and a tranquil, almost magical atmosphere.
A natural place to pause is Sortemosehus, a former forester’s cottage that now serves as an activity centre in the heart of Rold Forest. Here, you’ll find a Hærvejen Hostel, a shelter site, and public toilets – ideal for a break or even an overnight stay close to nature.
