Linddalene
Welcome to Linddalene, a hilly wooded area of 41 hectares, offering plenty of natural experiences and activities for the whole family. Here, you can follow the marked route or explore the area through the small trails.
Since 1992, Linddalene has been protected in an effort to preserve the historic landscape shaped by rain and meltwater from the last ice age about 15,000 years ago. Linddalene consists of dense beech forest, open heathlands, and grazing sheep.
A piece of history
Linddalene holds an intriguing history, which can be discovered through its various burial mounds. Standing 3.5 meters above Linddalene in the westernmost corner, 'Lindhøj' stands as evidence of the area's fascinating history spanning thousands of years. No one knows exactly how old the burial mound is, but it's a solid testament to human presence in the area for millennia. Besides 'Lindhøj,' there are other smaller burial mounds as well. See if you can spot all of them during your excursion.
Beech Rolls
In Linddalene, you can experience something truly unique: 'beech rolls,' which are beech trees with multiple trunks. This phenomenon occurs when a trunk is cut off, and the tree produces new trunks. It looks quite distinctive, and you can turn it into a competition to see who can spot the most on the tour!
Animals in Linddalene
Aside from the adorable grazing sheep, you might have the chance – or misfortune, depending on your perspective – to encounter the rare Danish tarantula. It's found in only a few places in Denmark and resides in burrows underground. If you're not fond of spiders, don't worry – it's far smaller than its tropical relatives, measuring "only" around 2 cm. To witness the tarantula, it's recommended to visit Linddalene in October and early November when the males venture out to find mates.
If you'd like to experience more of Hadsund after your day in Linddalene, it's less than a 5-minute drive to the town. There, you can stroll along the charming main street or head down to the harbor and enjoy the view of Mariagerfjord. If hunger strikes, Hadsund has numerous excellent restaurants offering options for both adults and children. For something easy and delicious, Café Piccolo is known for their great sandwiches. If you're craving something more substantial, pay a visit to Hadsund Færgekro, serving delightful Danish cuisine as you know it. Regardless of your choice, you won't leave hungry.
Note: Be prepared for the fact that Linddalene is a hilly landscape, and some routes follow natural trails that can be uneven and slippery after rain. But with the right attitude and proper footwear, a wonderful day in Linddalene is guaranteed.
