Langmosen
Langmosen is a raised bog of approximately 27 hectares, located in a depression without natural drainage. It is one of Denmark’s most undisturbed and well-preserved raised bogs, with a distinctive landscape of open bog surfaces, peat layers and views across the protected natural area.
Around 7,000 years ago, the area began to develop into a waterlogged bog with fen and marsh plants. Today, Langmosen is a valuable natural area where you can experience a rare and almost untouched type of bog.
A well-preserved raised bog
In the southern part of Langmosen, there is an open peat cutting. This is the only major intervention in the bog area, which is why the bog still appears unusually undisturbed.
The peat layers in the bog are at least 5 metres thick, and in some places there are soft and unsafe areas. It is therefore not recommended to try to cross the bog.
Path and viewpoint
A path has been established around Langmosen, allowing you to experience the area from a safe distance. At the western end of the path, the route leads to a viewpoint with beautiful views across the long, open bog surface.
A walk around the bog gives you a good impression of the distinctive landscape and peaceful atmosphere that characterise the area.
Protected nature by Madum Sø
Langmosen was protected together with Madum Sø and its surroundings in 1986. The total protected area covers approximately 400 hectares.
Although the area is publicly accessible, please remember that the land is privately owned. Show consideration, stay on the paths and follow the rules for access in privately owned forests.
