Hiking trail on the Clover Trails Øster Hurup (circular route, 11 km, black route)

At 11 km, the black clover trail is the longest route. It runs along the Kattegat, through open fields and through the town. A hiking route for those who want to venture a bit outside the town in varied terrain.

Øster Hurup offers four colour-coded Clover Trails – green, blue, red and black – all starting at the tourist office. With a physical map, available at the tourist office or at the starting pylon, you’ll discover fun facts, small challenges and local anecdotes that bring extra life to your walk along the way.

Starting point for the hiking route

By car or bicycle

Park at Havnepladsen, where the tourist office is located. Here you’ll find 4 hours of free parking. This is also the starting point for the green, blue and red clover trails.

By public transport

If you are travelling by public transport, the nearest bus stop is located 450 metres from the car park. The stop is called “Øster Hurup / Gl. Krovej” and is served by bus line 158 operated by NT (Nordjyllands Trafikselskab).

  • Use Rejseplanen.dk or the NT app for the exact route from your starting point.
  • Check if your bus requires advance booking – especially Telebus lines.
  • Important: Check timetables and booking requirements.

Good to know about marking, type, and length

The route is marked with a black/grey clover symbol. The signs are small and can be difficult to spot out in nature.

Signposting on the black route is somewhat limited, and it is recommended to use a map along the way.

Good to know about terrain, difficulty level, and accessibility

The terrain on the route is a mix of country roads, gravel paths, dirt tracks, forest paths, and paths along the water.

In summer, the route can easily be walked in good hiking sandals.

Please note

You walk several kilometers on asphalt and gravel roads. As you approach the sea, there is a wildlife fence that cannot be bypassed.

In a few places, the “trail” may be covered with water depending on the season.

What you can experience on the hiking route

  • Hadslevgaarde Stream: The stream was historically used by the estate owners to transport crops down to the Kattegat.

  • The Sea: Enjoy a refreshing swim in the sea, either on the way back or after reaching the finish.
